Funar's New Addiction: Star Wars Galaxies

SWG isn't your typical MMORPG; it's got more depth than any game of its type I've ever played. It has the perfect balance between being a social MMORPG and a die-hard RPG. The missions are interesting, the economy is booming and fair, the gameplay and graphics are stunning, and you don't have to spend huge amounts of real-life money to get yourself the "goodies" everyone wants in the game.

In game, you can visit key areas depicted in all of the Star Wars movies. Ben Kenobi's house on Tatooine, Jabba the Hutt's lair, the Gungan Sacred Place on Naboo, and tons more.

Skills and experience are not predetermined when you create your character. You may start a character as an assassin or bounty hunter, but later decide to be a merchant or doctor. The path is yours, and you can change your path at any time.

At $15.00/mo the game is a little more expensive than other MMORPGs, but let me tell you, it definitely has the three most important things that most other games fail in: new content, new content, new content. The game is updated almost weekly with new features, missions, items, and places to visit. In my personal opinion, it's worth the extra $5.00/mo over the others.

The downside? It uses a lot of memory/swap space in certain areas in the universe. I have 512mb of RAM in my Athlon XP 2100+ and i swap like mad when I enter cities. However, after a moment, the "lag" subsides and runs smoothly. Areas outside cities are smooth as silk and generally don't cause any lag or weirdness.

I've been weary of MMORPGs ever since Ultima Online, I watch my friend being online 23 hours a day addicted to it. This was back in during '97 when they were still beta testing it. I couldn't even call him, he tied the phone up all the time. Just be carefull you may find yourself going towards "The Dark Side"

Work is a good break to keep people off MMORPGs anyways.

Although the game looks really great, to bad I can't afford the 15 dollars a month to try it out.

Re: Funar's New Addiction: Star Wars Galaxies

Yea I have to admit. I am a pretty big gamer but I will not go out and purchase a $30 game then turn around and pay another $10 or $15 to play it every month. If it were something that wouldnt change for many many years. Ill be content with my Neverwinter and XBox games for now I guess.

Re: Funar's New Addiction: Star Wars Galaxies

I have a big problem paying monthly fees to continue playing a game, but when you consider the monthly cost includes weekly updates, regularly added new content, and a fast infrastructure to play on, the cost is definitely justified.

I can see getting in this game in the winter time, being less active and all. but for 15 dollars a month I would wan't to get my money's worth out of it. But in the summer time I game less and start doing outdoor activities.

I hear that. It's a true addiction. Once you start, you simply can't stop. It'd be awesome to have you in the group at some point. We can use all the help we can get. Check out the new screenshots of the dragon we went up against last night.
