PS2: Tribes™ Aerial Assault

Our friend, "The Stinger" sent in this review of Tribes™ Aerial Assault, a new network-playable game for the Playstation 2.

I had been looking forward to this game, but after reading this review, I'm thinking twice.
I rented this game today and here is what the stinger thought.

Graphics: Grade: B+ . The graphics are pretty impressive in this game. Of course not the most beautiful PS2 game I've seen, but decent none the less. The mountain textures i'm going to compare to Star wars: Starfighter.

Control: Grade: C. Ugh! Probably the hardest control to get used to that Ive have come across in an FPS. You can't customize the buttons or control yourself...only the 4 set options they give you.

Sound: Grade: B. The Voices are well recorded and are professional. The music is techno stuff good for gettin some frags, but gets repetitive after your 4th or 5th CTF or DM game.

Online experience (thus far): Grade C-. First off, they didn't put in any communication options WHATSOEVER. No pre-game chat, no in game chat...nothing. (Yes, so that means no USB keyboard support.) No SOCOM voice feature either. NOTHING. You pick a room and kill people...no communication. Most of the servers I've encountered have ALOT of Modem games and all the Broadband games are usually full and if you try to start your own, no one joins. Lots of options with about 10 different maps, 4 game choices, and ability to customize the look and features of your character is nice, but doesn't make up for the no communication factor.

Overall: Decent game that will soothe your Halo fix on the PS2, but could have been such a better game if the right options were thought out. (COMMUNICATION!!!!!). Definetly worth a rent if you even remotley liked Halo on-line. Worth a buy if you're a die hard FPS gamer.

Overall Grade (not an average): B-

I find it funny how all of you sit there and rip me for what I said about this game. Overall, I thought I was very lighthearted when I reviewed this game. Did I ever say the game was lacking becuase of the control? No. Communication makes any on-line game more enjoyable, and it could have been such a more awesome game if the right on-line options were thought out.
I also like it how only one of you actually left your name after your post- ya gonna rip people, at least have the balls to show your face.

Well, I must say that Tribes, Arieal Assult is one of the better strategy games I have been able to play. Both great with online and offline fun. People who dont like the button configuration need to learn that things arnt always what THEY WANT!!! Having no chat system is rather great, makes you do more. The vehicholes make a great addiition for just going over to the enemy base and demolishing everything. I use my fighters to destroy mainly the enemy vehicole stations!!! People get po'd having to repair everything continuously, but, this game is a challenge and is easily mastered if your great with stratagy. Hands are getting tired must stop typing. If i had to rate it on a scale from 1 to 10, it would be about a 9! THats it. And oh yes, you dont need a chatting system to strtegies. Just exchange jestures by shooting the guy that your trying to get your point across with. It works for me intil the 5th or 6th time
